Why should I have photos of my baby?

Your newborn experience is not forever. In fact, fleeting. The first six weeks will keep you so busy that before you know it, your newborn is a baby.

If you missed the newborn stage of your last child, let me capture an intimate, personal reflection of a moment in time of your baby. It will be an investment that never stops giving.

When should I book my baby shoot?

It is a good idea to plan your newborn or baby session.

You should book a newborn session within the first two weeks of birth.

A baby portrait session has a longer window of opportunity. There are so many magical phases within their first year that I offer a special three-sessions-in-the-first-year investment for baby portraits.

Where are newborn baby's portraits taken?

Newborn and baby portrait studies are photographed in my professionally equipped Johannesburg studio using studio lighting.

These photos are usually shot against a seamless backdrop. White and black are popular backdrop colours. I also have backdrops in the colour of rosewater and black moss.

Black and white baby silhouette photos are striking, and I capture these in my studio.

It is important that whatever background is selected one should never see the background before seeing your baby in front of it.

Who can join the newborn or baby portrait session?

Your newborn or baby is the focus of this portrait session. Family and friends are welcome to join.

How to prepare for baby portraits?

People always ask what their baby should wear. The simpler, the better. Choose something that shows off their delicate soft skin. The classic white baby grows, or vest is timeless.

Consider something with texture (blanket or jersey) as the contrast with their skin is striking.

Consider something of symbolic importance or value.

Plan the outfits. If you are still unsure, bring a couple of outfits, and we can make a final decision together.

I have a range of fabrics that we can also play with.

If you choose to be part of the shoot, ensure that your hands are neat and trimmed. Hands are so expressive and always in style. A manicure is not necessary.

If you are going to get a haircut, get it a week before the shoot. This way, the cut will grow in a little, and you will have some time to get used it. Try to do your hair yourself on the day of your shoot. It looks more natural, which is timeless.

A good night rest will be a plus.

What can I expect from a baby portrait session?

Since 2005 I have photographed hundreds of newborns and babies. I will bring all my years of experience and energy to your shoot.

You are welcome to share examples of maternity portraits you have gathered. We will discuss these ideas and together create a unique collection of moments for you.

I have years of experience when it comes to patience. Together we will get your baby to relax and if they have a "moment" I will capture that too. I want you to have an all-encompassing collection of real moments.

You will leave having had a refreshing experience. It is a precious hour and always fun.

After your session, you will come for an in-person reveal to select your photos.

Because your baby's portraits are important to you, I backup them up. If you lose your favourite, edited digital files, they can be retrieved for a fee.
