Day one of the 11th Sabrina Love Challenge 2014 took place on 29 December in Plettenberg Bay.
It was a feast for my lens on a number of levels.
The beauty of the environment – still one of most beautiful coastlines in SA – was overridden by the bravery and guts of the participants.
Try a 5km swim in that freezing water – well 18 degrees celsius is just that for me as i remember it numbing my brain over the years that I spent during those hot summer holidays.
Better still I was overwhelmed Jaco van Rensburg, who had just completed the 10km 6am run an hour earlier, doing the swim leg – with one arm!
I’m not sure how I do it, but if I have noticed someone that stands out to me in a gathering like this at the beginning of an event, my lens guides me to catch them at the finish line. We’re a good team my lens and I.
The show wouldn’t have ended on the high note it did without the sprinkling of the local celebrity cast – Gary Player, Chad Ho, Chantel Nienaber and Vanessa Haywood – to name a few.
Bertie Lubner, who’s enthusiasm for his cause was palatable to me, rest in peace as you passed on recently.
Sabrina Love will miss you, but Sabrina will be waiting for you!
