From the Bayer on the East Rand in Gauteng, where their vector control solutions are manufactured i.e. insecticides to reduce the transmission of malaria, insecticide treated mosquitos nets and Indoor Residual Spraying ((IRS) products to the rural training ground in Jeppe’s Reef, Mmpumalanga, where teams of people are trained by the Department of Health to apply the products locally and then finally to the rural areas north of Lusaka, Zambia to illustrate the extent of it’s usage just another example of a malaria endemic country of the world.
Bayer has over 50 years of expertise in vector-borne-diseases solutions and it was incredible to capture the product range in their factory, the training and education of their products as well as their implementation.
I was continually aware that we were capturing the homes of others less fortunate than us.
I have one image of a little girl holding a dead rat, which she continually stroked it as if it was her soft toy. YOu’ll have to view that one on my personal blog.
The team had brought sweets as a thank you, however, they all asked for our “click, click” pens- the good old Bic pen – which struck a cord in all of us.
So from 40 degrees celsius under big sky country it was a relief to be home to our temperate Johannesburg climate, a malaria free zone too.
