Family – Fragile, fleeting silhouette moments

I’d been wanting to offer this style for some time

For me, a silhouette portrait is incredibly beautiful in its simplicity.

The word “silhouette” derives from the name of Étienne de Silhouette, a French finance minister who, in 1759, was forced by France’s credit crisis during the Seven Years War to impose severe economic demands upon the French people, particularly the wealthy.[2] Because of de Silhouette’s austere economies, his name became eponymous with anything done or made cheaply and so with these outline portraits.[3][4] Prior to the advent of photography, silhouette profiles cut from black card were the cheapest way of recording a person’s appearance.[5][6] ref wikipedia.org

I found it rather apt to be introduce this style during our own world credit crisis that started in 2009!

I imagine these photos printed to fine art paper, with its archival qualities, framed beautifully, to be cherished for years to come.
