Personal – Tribute to my mother’s 80th in 2013

I reckon I capture around 5000 personal images a year usually of my boy, the hounds, celebratory moments with friends, macro photos of my friends in the garden and any trips we make out of Johannesburg, to name just a few.

Images are so powerful.  If allow them, they will transport you back to that moment you pressed the shutter.

I usually do this to a glass of wine and the cool sounds of Coldplay’s  “Amazing Day”,  Bruce Springsteen’s “American Skin (41 shots) and “Secret Garden”,  Pink Floyd’s “Wish you were here” , Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing compares 2 U” or Stabat Mater – “And the Mother did weep” followed by floods of tears – happy and sad ones.

So in celebration of my mom’s 80th I put together a bunch of photos I know she would have really appreciated and which i felt went some way of expressing what was dear to her and reminded me of her.

Taken too early at 62 by the big C I remember her daily as say some of her lines to my boy just like she used to say to me “just cut out your crap”, “come here you little stinker, stinker” or “use your brain, that is why God gave you one”.

They may sound like harsh words, but they have held me in good stead too as I realise daily that this world is not for sissies. Especially if you live in Africa!
