One family. Many years. The relationships that remain.
Some families return to be photographed once or twice. Others return over many years, allowing their photographs to become something much greater than a collection of individual moments.
Lindy Parr and her family are one of those families.
I have photographed Evan and Neve from childhood into adulthood, alongside their parents, recording the changes in their faces, their relationships and the ways they hold one another.
What began as portraits of young children has become a remarkable visual history of a family.
Children grow.
Their expressions change.
The arms that once carried them find new ways to hold them.
Yet certain gestures remain familiar.
A daughter leans into her father.
A son wraps his arms around his mother.
A brother and sister find their own way of being together.
Photographed years apart, these moments begin to speak to one another.
The earlier portrait gives meaning to the later one.
The later portrait reminds us of everything that came before.
Rather than arranging these photographs as one long chronological sequence, I have brought together the relationships within the family.
Evan, from boyhood to adulthood.
Neve, from little girl to young woman.
A mother with her daughter.
A mother with her son.
A father with each of his children.
Lindy and her husband, photographed together as the years move forward.
And finally, the family as a whole.
Each grouping tells its own story.
Together, they reveal something larger.
The final portraits bring everyone back together.
The little children have become adults.
The family has changed, as every family does.
Yet the closeness, the humour and the affection remain visible.
These photographs were never intended to document every year or every milestone.
They were made to hold moments that would otherwise pass.
And seen together, they show just how much those moments become.
Your family doesn't need to wait for a milestone to be photographed.
The years are already moving.
