Movement in Light is a quieter study of the body.
Photographed against white, the work is stripped of much of the weight and drama of my black-background portraits.
What remains is line.
Gesture.
Shadow.
The space between one movement and the next.
Sometimes the smallest movement says enough.
These portraits are made with dancers, performers and people whose bodies have been shaped by practice.
A curve of the back.
The extension of a foot.
Fabric moving through the frame.
A shadow that becomes part of the photograph.
Sometimes the body is clearly defined.
Sometimes it begins to disappear into the light.
The body becomes the drawing.
Movement in Light is photographed as part of my Dance & Movement portrait work.
